Interpretation Requested:

While both AAMA 1704-85 and AAMA 1704-12 contain specific language requiring "Primary" windows to meet the requirements of AAMA 1701, no language exists that makes the same requirement of secondary interior mounted storm windows.

1) Are appurtenances, and specifically interior mounted storm windows, exempt from the requirements of AAMA 1701 as required in AAMA 1704-85 Section 2.2 and AAMA 1704-12 Section 4.2 as they are not Primary Windows?
2) Are those appurtenances cited in interpretation #1 (above) eligible for testing to AAMA 1704-85 and AAMA 1704-12?

Date of Inquiry: June, 2014
