1.1 This specification covers compounds that are blends of thermoplastic and cellulosic ingredients. The thermoplastic components of the thermoplastic/cellulosic composite compounds include but not limited to poly vinyl chloride) (PVC) vinyl chloride copolymers, polyvinyl chloride blends, polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene (PE) and high density polyethylene (HDPE). The compounding ingredients of the thermoplastic shall be permitted to consist of lubricants, stabilizers, modifiers, blowing agents, colorants, pigments, and/or inorganic fillers. The cellulosic fillers shall be permitted to be in the form of but not limited to distinct fibers, fiber bundles, particles, wafers, flakes, strands or veneers. These elements shall be permitted to be bonded together with naturally occurring or synthetic polymers. Additives such as wax, pigments, process aids or preservatives shall be permitted to be added to enhance performance or aesthetics. 1.2 This specification provides common test methods and description of physical and thermal properties and classification of the thermoplastic/cellulosic composites. These properties shall be permitted to be determined by evaluating composites of any color. 1.3 The properties provided in this specification are intended to be used for product design, qualification, quality control and performance standards, but are not intended to predict product performance because it is affected not only by material properties but also product design, process capability, end use environment, etc. 1.4 It shall be permitted to select specific compounds for unusual applications that require consideration of other properties not covered in this specification. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It shall be the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 The primary units of measure in this document shall be metric. The values stated in SI units shall be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses shall be for reference only.
